Facebook Cracks Down on Fake Likes

Social networking giant Facebook has announced it is taking steps to eliminate bogus Likes posted in Facebook brand pages. These fake Likes are often from users who do not exist or do not have any knowledge of the page’s subject or business.

Clamping down on fake Likes is not only to keep pages filled with actual Facebook users, but also to fix an issue that could devalue Facebook’s advertising model.

In its official blog, Facebook said it does not and has never allowed purchasing or selling Facebook Likes, as the company only wants people connecting to the Pages and brands with those they have chosen to connect. The social networking site also intends to remove Likes gained by malware, compromised accounts, deceived users, or purchased bulk Likes.

“A Like that doesn’t come from someone truly interested in connecting with a Page benefits no one. Real identity, for both users and brands on Facebook, is important to not only Facebooks mission of helping the world share, but also the need for people and customers to authentically connect to the Pages they care about,” the blog post states.
